Ce juvénile va se poser et ne manque pas d’annoncer son arrivée par un cri puissant.

Le héron pourpré – Ardea purpurea – est un héron de grande taille (90 cm). Si l’adulte est un oiseau bien coloré, le juvénile montre un plumage plus clair, plus terne et moins contrasté. Il n’a pas cette bande noire le long du cou que porte l’adulte.

Le héron pourpré est un migrateur. Ce juvénile nous quitte à l’automne pour rejoindre les régions au sud du Sahara.

C’est un oiseau méfiant et difficile à observer tant il se confond dans la végétation. Il sait rester longtemps immobile et silencieux. Et quand il vole, il faut être réactif pour le voir (et le photographier…). Heureusement qu’il crie au décollage ou à l’atterrissage.

The Purple Heron – Ardea purpurea – is a large heron (90 cm). If the adult is a well-colored bird, the juvenile shows lighter plumage, duller and less contrasted. He doesn’t have that black band along the neck that the adult wears.

The purple heron is a migrant. This juvenile leaves us in the autumn to join the regions south of the Sahara.

It is a suspicious bird and difficult to observe as it blends into the vegetation. It knows how to stay still and quiet for a long time. And when it flies, you have to be responsive to see it (and photograph it…). Fortunately, he shouts at takeoff or landing.
