Ce traîne-buisson fouille les feuilles mortes pour y trouver des insectes.
L’accenteur mouchet – Prunella modularis – est une espèce encore assez commune.
On le voit souvent sur le sol ou sur un buisson. Il a d’ailleurs été appelé « traîne-buisson » en raison de son comportement.
Il ressemble assez au moineau domestique – Passer domesticus – mais en est aussi assez éloigné.
Le bec fin et pointu de l’accenteur mouchet nous donne une idée de son régime alimentaire. S’il mange beaucoup d’insectes au printemps et en été (il fouille les feuilles mortes sur le sol pour y trouver des larves et des invertébrés), il mange des petites graines de plantes herbacée en hiver.
C’est d’ailleurs à cette époque qu’il vient dans le jardin pour y trouver de quoi manger.

The Dunnock – Prunella modularis – is still a fairly common species.
It is often seen on the ground or in a bush. It has been called « Hedge Sparrow » because of its behaviour.
It is quite similar to the house sparrow – Passer domesticus – but also quite distinctt from it.
The sharp and thin beak of the Dunnock gives us an idea of his diet. If it eats a lot of insects in spring and summer (it searches the leaves on the ground for larvae and invertebrates), it eats small seeds of herbaceous plants in winter.
It is also at this time that he comes to the garden to find something to eat.
