Un oiseau coloré aux couleurs chatoyantes mais au caractère bien trempé.

Voici un pinson des arbres – Fringilla coelebs. C’est un mâle.

Il se reconnaît à ses couleurs nombreuses et très visibles.

En hiver, le plumage est beaucoup plus terne. L’usure des plumes fera apparaître dès le début du printemps des couleurs beaucoup plus chatoyantes.

Le mâle se mettra alors à chanter. Un chant fort et puissant qui permettra de délimiter un territoire, attirer une femelle et chasser un éventuel rival. Il se postera alors bien en évidence au sommet d’un arbre ou d’un arbuste. Tout le contraire de la femelle.

Le pinson des arbres est certes joli mais il est agressif. Il combat volontiers un autre mâle. Un oiseau territorial au printemps et très grégaire en hiver.

Il passe de la vie de célibataire (coelebs signifie célibataire pour expliquer la ségrégation mâle/femelle en dehors de la période de reproduction) à la vie de groupe où, parfois, se rassemblent des millions de pinsons des arbres.

Here is an Eurasian Chaffinch – Fringilla coelebs. It’s a male.

It is recognized by its numerous and very visible colors.

In winter, the plumage is much more dull. The wear of the feathers will reveal much shimmering colors from the beginning of spring.

The male will then start to sing. A strong and powerful song that will delineate a territory, attract a female and chase away a potential rival. It will then position itself prominently at the top of a tree or a shrub. Quite the opposite of the female.

The Eurasian Chaffinch is certainly pretty but it is aggressive. It readily fights another male. A territorial bird in the spring and very gregarious in winter.

He goes from single life (coelebs means single to explain the segregation of male/female outside the breeding period) to group life where, sometimes, millions of Eurasian Chaffinches gather.
