Un papillon ocre-orangé que l’on voit parfois dans le jardin mais le plus souvent dans les zones chaudes et bien ensoleillées. Découvrons un peu ce papillon.

L’amaryllis – Pyronia tithonus – est un papillon qui ne se rencontre pas partout. Sa présence peut être localisée à certaines zones et cela peut parfois changer d’une année à l’autre.

Ceci étant dit, il peut être commun. Celui-ci a été photographié dans les lavandes du jardin.

C’est un papillon que l’on trouve surtout dans les endroits ensoleillés et chauds. Le réchauffement climatique va favoriser son expansion géographique.

La femelle est plus grande que le mâle (entre 34 et 38 mm). Ce papillon ocre-orangé se reconnaît à la tache noire et ronde avec 2 points blancs symétriques à l’intérieur. Rond noir situé à l’extrémité de l’aile postérieure.

Ce papillon hiverne sous forme de chenille.

The Gatekeeper – Pyronia tithonus – is a butterfly not found everywhere. Its presence may be localized to certain areas and this can change from year to year.

That being said, it may be common. This one was photographed in my lavender gardens.

This butterfly can be found especially in sunny and warm places. Global warming will favor its geographical expansion.

The female is larger than the male (between 34 and 38 mm). This ochre-orange butterfly is recognizable by the black and round spot with two symmetrical white dots inside. Round black spot located at the tip of the hindwing.

This butterfly overwinters as a caterpillar.
